A major application of ferro- and ferrimagnetic materials is intransformer and motor cores. Materials are required that aremagnetically soft (high permeabilities – they are magnetized easilyat low applied fields and a low coercive field) with largepower-handling capacity and low losses. Why cannot pure iron metalbe used in transformer cores?
