- Biodiesel fuel has a cloud point, the temperature at which thefuel becomes cloudy, of approximately 13 0C .This clouding can lead to poor engine performance and can evencause an engine to stop completely. An industrial chemical companyproduces an additive designed to lower the cloud point of this typeof fuel. A random sample of six different biodiesel fuels wasobtained and the cloud point was measured for each. One gram of thechemical additive was mixed in with every fuel sample and the cloudpoint was measured again. The resulting data are
given in the following table (temperature in 0C ).
Fuel | A | B | C | E | F |
Before additive | 11.7 | 12.9 | 14.2 | 11.3 | 12.4 |
After additive | 10.3 | 10.7 | 14.1 | 11.2 | 12.1 |
Assume normality andconduct the appropriate hypothesis test to determine whether theadditive lowers the mean cloud point in biodiesel fuel. Use α= 0.05.
