Fahad had astudent loan that was in arrears. Collection of the loanhad beentransferred from the original lender toKneecap Collections Inc., a collection agency. When Kneecapdemanded payment, Fahad questionedthe amount that was being claimed, which was much larger than theamount of the original loan. Kneecap did not give any explanationand insisted on immediate payment. Fahad said that he would not payany amount until Kneecap provided an explanation for the amountowing.Shortly afterthis, Kneecap began to harass Fahad. They made violent threats toFahad and repeatedly called his employer, making false statementsabout Fahad. They told his employer that Fahad haddefrauded theemployer and that he was secretly working part-time for acompetitor.
