It is one thing to intellectually learn all of these theoriesand concepts. It is another to actually put those concepts intopractice. It is when we apply what we have learned to our livesthat we will experience real change. I want to challenge you toapply the techniques for active, empathetic and responsivelistening. This exercise will take intentionality and planning forit to be worthwhile.
Begin by choosing someone with whom you will be having thisconversation. Is there someone whom you have been neglecting in thelistening department? Is there someone who is typically unheard? Ordo you have an unresolved conflict that would benefit from someactive listening?
After you have chosen, be sure to set the stage properly forlistening. Review key concepts from this week and think through howyou will apply them. Next, challenge yourself by implementing theseconcepts in a real conversation. Feel free to ask the individualafterward, how you did and if they felt heard. Take notes soonafter the conversation is over, so it is fresh in your mind. Writea response describing your experience and applying each of theconcepts used
