There are five psychological theories of motivation which canimprove employee’s quality of work, increase productivity, give jobsatisfaction and can reduce turnover as well. As a manager, themost important one is the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. It is veryimportant to meet the employees’ needs for the company’s good sake.This hierarchy is made of five layers. They are as follows:
- Psychological needs: this one is the basic needs of everypeople living in the earth. This one includes the basic things thatpeople need to live like water, food, shelter and etc. As amanager, it is possible to provide good remuneration to theemployees which can meet their basic needs and can possibly beincreasing efficiency.
- Safety needs: this one refers to the personal and financialstability. A secured lifestyle to live their lives. It alsoincludes health. It is important to provide a safe workingenvironment for workers specially for women.
- Social needs: people need personal and professional friendsbeside them. Everyone wants a good environment to work on. Afriendly manager is always an employee’s desire. It would be easyfor that employee to share issues with the manager and as a resultcan reduce employee turnover as well.
- Esteem needs: this one refers to the intention of people to beconfident and get respected by other people as well.
- Self-actualization needs: this one refers to improve yourselfto become the best you can. This is where a manager needs toperform his best. As a manager it is important to help employees tomake them understand the meaning of their roles in thecompany.
