Solidus lineand solvusline The solidus is the locus oftemperatures a curve on a phase diagram below which a givensubstance is completely solid crystallized The solidus isapplied among other materials to metal alloys ceramics andnatural rocks and mineralsThe solidus quantifies the temperature at which melting of asubstance begins but the substance is not necessarily meltedcompletely ie the solidus is not necessarily a melting pointFor this distinction the solidus may be contrasted to theliquidus The solidus is always less than or equal to the liquidusbut they need not coincide If a gap exists between the solidus andliquidus it is called the freezing range and within that gap thesubstance consists of a mixture of solid and liquid phases like aslurry Such is the case for example with the olivineforsteritefayalite systemsolvus is a line binary system or surface ternary system ona phase diagram which separates a homogeneous solid solution from afield of several phases which may form by exsolution or incongruentmelting The line determines a solid solubility limit which changesas a function of temperature It is a locus of    See Answer
